Aboriginal smoking ceremony and stakeholder event
Aboriginal smoking ceremony and stakeholder event
Liverpool Hospital, alongside key stakeholders who have been integral to the redevelopment, came together to celebrate the completion of Stage 1 of the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct.
A traditional Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony was held to cleanse, bless, and protect the new space before it opens, making this a significant moment in our hospital’s journey.
Guests were also welcomed with a beautiful performance of the Australian National Anthem, first in the Dharawal language, followed by English. This was followed by words from representatives of Liverpool’s diverse cultures in Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi, and Vietnamese.
Representing the wonderful young people of our community, we had the pleasure of hearing from student leaders from Liverpool Girls and Liverpool Boys High Schools, who spoke on behalf of the next generation—those who may one day use or even work in the hospital's services. And finally guests were invited on a guided tour of the new building.
