Stunning new artworks unveiled

Artists and creative teams involved in the creation of the beautiful artworks featured in Stage 1 of the $830 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital had a “sneak peek’’ of their installations ahead of the new hospital building’s opening to the public on 28 October.

Hospital General Manager Scott McGrath said the artworks looked magnificent.

“I am so impressed with the artworks which reflect our wonderful culturally diverse community, our connection to country and most importantly creating an environment of healing, support and comfort,’’ Mr McGrath said.

Artist team Zakpage worked with local Aboriginal community members and traditional knowledge holders to co-design a major digital artwork and a suspended sculpture in the new building’s foyer, collectively called ‘Burbangana’, a Dharag word meaning ‘take hold of my hand and help me up’.

Multicultural leaders developed the themes of the multicultural community art project, led by artist team Barahanos Byrne, including belonging, family, tradition, journeys and nature.

These themes inspired four local artists from migrant and refugee backgrounds, Federico Rekowski, Kevser Urgulo, Kevin Vo and Yasameen Albo, to create the wall graphics and installations featured across the new building.
