Pathology revolution transforming healthcare
Pathology revolution transforming healthcare
The construction of a new NSW Health Pathology Department as part of the $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct redevelopment is centralising three levels of operations into a single floor.
It will be located closer to vital units such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Birthing Unit, Intensive Care Unit, operating theatres, and the Emergency Department, providing many workflow and collaboration benefits for staff, patients, and hospital services.
NSW Health Pathology Chief Executive Vanessa Janissen shared her excitement surrounding the project following a recent tour of the construction site.
"I really appreciated the opportunity to see the redevelopment and the progress on the pathology department," Ms Janissen said.
"The lab space will uplift our team's important work for the hospital and community. Well done to everyone involved in the design and delivery and I look forward to its commissioning."
The integrated Pathology Department will have state-of-the art laboratory automation and analysers, which will streamline specimen handling, and improve turnaround times – giving patients and clinicians faster access to crucial results.
A new purpose-built Genomics Laboratory will also support the increasing demand for genomic information and testing.
The Pathology Department will be completed later this year.
