In June 2018, the NSW Government announced funding of $740 million for the redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital into a world class health, research and education precinct (Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct – LHAP). The redevelopment will increase the inpatient bed numbers and significantly expand services.
The endorsed LHAP masterplan identified the need to demolish the existing P2 multi-storey car park to help realise efficiencies across the site in support of the campus masterplan. In March 2019, the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced $50 million towards 500 new parking spaces at Liverpool Hospital to help meet the projected growth associated with the redevelopment to 2026.
A tender process has been undertaken and SSDA approval for the new multi-storey car park is expected in mid-November 2020, with works commencing thereafter. Construction on the seven-storey car park will continue throughout 2021, with commissioning anticipated in early 2022.
The multi-storey car park will be accessed via Burnside Drive and easily accessible from various hospital entrance/exit doors. The facility will be boom-gated with security lighting and CCTV to provide safe parking options.
