As part of the arts consultation for the redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital, the project team joined clinical representatives from Liverpool Hospital to participate in a ‘Walk on Country’ event held at Sandy Point Community Centre. Leaders from the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council took the team on a journey through Aboriginal history, culture and to various places along the Georges River – including a bushwalk on country, participating in a yarning circle, a smoking ceremony, and eating delicious damper! The team gained an understanding of the stories and heritage of the land from the local Aboriginal community as part of the consultation for the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct arts program.
Redevelopment Director Karinn Marrone said the event was a great day and a fantastic opportunity to experience the Aboriginal culture of the region. “Thank you to the District’s Aboriginal Services Deputy Director Karen Beetson and the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council for sharing their culture and history with us in this important event.”
