NSW Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Health Ryan Park and Liverpool MP Charishma Kaliyanda joined guests at the topping out ceremony for the five-level building on 29 May, as well as inspecting progress on the new Emergency Department. Liverpool Hospital General Manager Karen McMenamin said the topping out milestone was a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in the project. "It has been amazing to see the tower take shape from a concrete slab just a year ago,’’ Ms McMenamin said. “This is another exciting step towards the completion of the first stage of our hospital redevelopment in 2024. “I’d like to thank our clinicians, consumers and staff who were involved in designing the new building, our builder Lendlease, and the redevelopment project team including Health Infrastructure, John Staff Projects and South Western Sydney Local Health District for their efforts over the past years. “Their collaboration and partnership have been key to the success of the project’s progress.”
An Australian native tree was lifted onto the roof of the new building, honouring a Scandinavian tradition of placing an evergreen tree at the highest point of construction. Construction of the second stage will begin following completion of the first stage in 2024.
